The Caterpillar 245 Excavator
Manufacturing for the Cat 245 started in 1974. The 245 came standard with a 3406 turbocharged, six-cylinder engine producing 325 flywheel horsepower (FWHP), a variable flow hydraulic system, hydrostatic drive, and oil disc brakes. In 1981 and 1982, a modified D9 undercarriage and stronger carbody were added, beginning with 84X00698, 94L00466, 82X00573, and 95V00990. At the same time the 82X unit received a 24-inch (61-cm) double grouser track, while the other units got 30-in (76-cm) double grouser tracks.
