Case Improves M Series Dozer Undercarriage
Case Construction Equipment (Case) has continued to evolve their M series dozer undercarriages to bring equipment owners longer machine life, greater performance and lower operating costs, says Case. The company introduced the M Series dozer in 2013 and the company boasts their standard Sealed and Lubricated Heavy Duty tracks have a 20 percent increased life compared to the previous track version.
Each Case dozer features a smooth, one-piece track frame that features greater structural strength and allows for easier cleanout. The new undercarriage developments help shed material while the machine is in operation. New rock guards and sprocket guards further protect critical components and deflect material away from them. A new dirt relief sprocket design on the 1650M and 2050M—the two largest machines in the line—has cut outs to allow mud to be forced out from the track chain and sprocket, reducing wear and track popping.
Also, exclusively on the 1650M and 2050M models, the push beam pivot points have been relocated; this change decreases exposure to wear, improves reliability and improves blade stability and pushing performance.
Increases in the width of the track rollers, carrier rollers and the idler on all Case dozer undercarriages improve structural integrity, reduce wear and achieve greater balance. A decrease in the diameter of the front idler improves visibility to the blade. This is crucial since visibility has a huge impact on dozer performance. If an operator has a better view to the blade, they can better control the machine in order to get the best performance from it.

Changes to the spacing of the carrier track and track roller reduce noise and vibration, thereby reducing chain flopping and total resonance throughout the machine, as well as offering a more comfortable ride. Case’s new Ultra Life chain has no bushing backlash and therefore decreases noise even more.
The Ultra Life track with wet lube chain bushings can offer a service life of 5,000 hours or more. It is available only on the 1650M and 2050M models. Case’s smaller dozers (models 650 to 1150) come equipped with a dry rotating bushing design Max Life track that extends track life by as much as 15 percent, says the company.
Since undercarriages make up more than 50 percent of the lifetime maintenance costs of a dozer, the company has made efforts in the design of these undercarriages to make maintenance easier. For example, critical grease points for the pivot shaft and equalizer beam joints are easy to reach and this makes some maintenance more convenient and less time consuming.
Then, to help contractors get the most out of their undercarriage, Case offers several track configuration options.
In addition to Case’s standard Sealed and Lubricated Heavy Duty tracks, Ultra Life and Max Life extended life options, Case offers three different track options for each M Series dozer model: XLT (Extra Long Track), WT (Wide Track) and LGP (Low Ground Pressure).
The XLT is the narrowest track configuration available and is well-suited for working in hard, rocky soil. The WT is a wider track configuration that is a good all-purpose track. That offers good ground penetration and improved traction on slopes. The LGP option is the widest pad width available; it provides plenty of flotation and is ideal for working in muddy, swampy conditions.
Since the traction on a dozer is generated from the penetration of the cleat’ it is a general rule to choose the narrowest track possible that matches your application.
